HóSPEDE explores issues related to the relation between artists, analysing the conceptual, ideological and formal contaminations that can occur in the context of artistic practice. Works by different authors from different fields of education are presented, resulting in a project composed of the relationships established between eight artists and an exhibition space - Duplex Apartment of Edifício Parnaso, designed by Architect José Carlos Loureiro.
The result of the conviviality in atelier work and of the relationships and collaborations between artists, these artistic projects inevitably end up being influenced - essentially in an unconscious way - by the practices and ideologies of their peers. In HóSPEDE, induced contamination was incorporated to spontaneous contamination, forming part of the assumptions of the production of commissioned works specifically for the exhibition. Two artists interpret each other's work, making use of mutual formal and conceptual codes, and somehow, they confront and dialogue with their own creative exercise and process. One of the issues that we intend to analyse here is the relation within artistic practices. Another object of investigation is a possible dilution of authorship, in the reaffirmation of the community spirit, and a consequent artistic appreciation among peers.
HóSPEDE raises three issues that are central to it: the contamination of artists by their peers in their studio work; the hinge between art and design and the curatorial specificities such as the exhibition of an independent publication. These questions allow us to foresee many others that are implicit.
